Hey guys and gals.
I just wanted to drop you a quick note to let you folks know how glad I am that I have Lucas Oil in my oil pan…
On Friday night at Pomona, I was truckin’ on down the track 1st round… I got the winlight, and after I passed the winlight I noticed that I had absolutely 0 oil pressure. As soon as I possibly could, I grabbed neutral, and clicked the engine off. I coasted around the corner, and came to a stop. I thought maybe my oil pump pick-up tube came off, but after I got back to my pit area, and further inspecting the situation, I realized that it could quite possibly be much worse. After pulling the distributor out, I found that the oil pump drive was missing, which tells me that the oil pump is laying in the oil pan. With 2nd round 30 minutes after the 1st round, I didn’t have time to see about getting it fixed for the next round. So I was a no-show 2nd round. It was too bad, because I was .008 on the tree & 9.914 on the track, and feeling pretty confident.
On Sunday morning, I pulled the oil pan off, and sure enough, I found the oil pump & pick-up laying in the oil pan. It appears that the oil pump just sheared off the rear main cap. So I began looking at the rod bearings, and I think I got extremely lucky, as I pulled down 4 rod caps, and eventhough the bearings were starting to get ugly, the crank looks flawless, thus far. Looks like the top layer of the bearings took a beating. I hope the crank passes magnaflux, otherwise, it’s only going to cost me a set of bearings & possibly some other minor cost. The rods never got hot or blue in color. I’m hoping for the best. I was using the 20W-50 Racing Blend with a quart of oil stabilizer. Thank the lord above I did so. You may use this as a testimonial. It saved me from having extensive engine damage.
