Pomona, California (February 22, 2016) - Robert Hight qualified in the No. 3 position at the Winternationals with a 3.913 second pass at 322.04 mph. He gained four bonus points throughout qualifying and matched up with Tommy Johnson Jr. in the opening round of eliminations on Sunday.
Going into Sunday, Hight had an impressive 65% first round win rate. His Auto Club Chevrolet Camaro SS posted a 3.928 ET at 324.67 mph. Unfortunately, the round win bought Hight a second round match-up with teammate Courtney Force. By .003 of a second, Hight did not have lane choice.
Hight was 9 - 5 against Courtney in prior events going into the round, but Courtney had a 5 - 3 edge in second round matchups. Courtney’s Traxxas Chevy had a cylinder out at the 660 mark and Hight was under power all the way to the stripe. He posted a 3.955 ET at 324.67 mph which gave him lane choice in the semifinals against Ron Capps.
The pair left pretty close together, but Capps pulled away and got the win by 0.0175 seconds (about 8 feet). Hight is currently No. 3 in NHRA point standings.
