March 12, 2015 - Lucas Oil Products’ Gary Phillips and Matt Forbes are determined to continue their winning form at this weekend’s Pro Series 1000 at Adelaide International Raceway.
The Pro Series 1000 hosts the second round of ANDRA’s seven round Top Alcohol Series, and the third of the six round Summit Sportsman Series.
Phillips leads the Top Alcohol points after taking out the opening round at the Perth Motorplex in January, and the 16-time champion is looking to extend his buffer.
“We had a great opening round at Perth, we grabbed the win, set a new speed record, and were only three points shy of maximum points, and I want to carry that momentum into Adelaide – I’d rather be the target than the arrow in the championship,” Phillips said.
Phillips said this weekend’s event on the shorter, all-asphalt AIR track required a different approach to the Perth Motorplex.
“We have to approach Adelaide differently because it’s a 1000 foot track instead of the full quarter mile, so we’ve made some changes to the clutch and transmission,” he said.
“It’s also completely asphalt, so there’s a consistent surface. If it’s hot it can be slippery, but it looks like the weather is going to be high-20s both days and perfect for racing.”
Forbes again leads the Super Gas Points, and the two-time Australian Champion is determined to continue his winning form and back up his round one win at Portland in January.
“My goal is to leave Adelaide with ANDRA’s maximum 160 points, and that will mean the pressure is off until the title decider at the Winternationals at Willowbank in June,” Forbes said.
“We’re not resting on our laurels and have worked hard to make some improvements to the suspension and ignition of our Lucas Oil Corvette Roadster to give us even more edge at the starting tree.
“We’re up against 13 other capable Super Gas drivers and teams, so it will be a tough field. It just puts more emphasis on claiming the top qualifier spot to get a bye in eliminations.
“We debuted the Corvette Roadster in Adelaide last October with a faultless weekend, and it’s always an electric atmosphere, so I’m more excited than ever to go racing again.”
Qualifying for the Pro Series 1000 begins Saturday at 9:00am, with eliminations Sunday.
