Ballarat’s Matt Forbes has kept his 12 month Super Gas winning streak intact after taking out round nine of the ANDRA Aeroflow Sportsman Drag Racing Championship yesterday.

Forbes defeated rival Danny Bucella at Mildura’s Sunset Strip in the final outing of his Lucas Oil ’27 T Roadster.

The reigning Super Gas champion says it was a fairy tale finish to his campaign in the Roadster.

“Winning at our final event in this car is very fitting,” Forbes said.

“It’s humbling to think of the success we’ve had in this car. To win one event is difficult enough but to win three national championship events, including the Australian Nationals and 2013 Championship shows how strong this has been.”

The Lucas Oil driver was top qualifier with a 6.303 second pass on a 6.300 second index time over the eighth mile and faced Bucella in the final – which Forbes won with an even closer 6.302 second run.

“Danny is always a threat who can send you home early,” Forbes said.

“He’s made leaps and bounds in the past year and has a strong chance at every event so beating him is no easy feat.”

With only two events remaining, Forbes is on track to secure back-to-back Super Gas titles and knows he will have to hit the ground running with his new car which he unveiled in July.

“I’m confident this will be a great car moving forward but we will need to get a handle on it quickly,” Forbes said.

“There are a lot of very talented Super Gas racers aiming to take me out early in the final two events.”

Forbes will debut his new ’57 Lucas Oil Corvette Roadster at Adelaide International Raceway October 4-5.
