Ballarat drag racer Matt Forbes has taken the covers off a stunning new 1957 Corvette Roadster that he hopes to defend his national title with later this year.
Joining Forbes was Lucas Oil Products director of motorsports, Tom Bogner, who also announced an extension of his company's major sponsorship agreement with the reigning Australian Super Gas Champion.
Forbes' spectacular new Corvette was built by renowned American racecar builders Don Davis Race Cars and is powered by a 598 cubic inch (9.8ltr) Sunset Racecraft big block Chev that produces 1150hp (845kW).
It was purchased from champion U.S. racer Tommy Phillips, who won numerous NHRA national events with it and finished a best of second in the prestigious Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series.
Forbes said Bogner's presence made today's unveiling more memorable.
"We're super excited to finally reveal our new Lucas Oil Corvette, and to have Tom here to assist with the unveiling is a huge honour," Forbes said.
"The Corvette is a world class car with the right pedigree; it's a Don Davis-built '57 Corvette roadster with over 1100 horsepower and it's going to ensure we can contend for championships well into the future.
"Tom's confirmation of Lucas' on-going commitment is sensational. We couldn't be happier with their support, they're like family to us."
In Ballarat as part of a whirlwind Australian tour, Bogner said Forbes presents the ideal sponsorship opportunity.
"I'm ecstatic to be here to help take the covers off Matt's roadster and confirm an extension to his Lucas Oil Products sponsorship," Bogner said.
"We first met Matt two years ago and were really impressed – he's the sort of guy we want to work closely with. He sells our oils, additives and car care products; he uses them and wins championships with them.
"Matt's bought the right car to continue winning races, and we're fortunate to be able to step up our sponsorship program with him.
"Lucas Oil Products is a lubricants company that enjoys winning and Matt has the whole package to continue doing just that."
Forbes said he expected to debut the Lucas Oil Corvette in the coming months and believed it would carry him to a second straight Super Gas title.
"Our chances of doubling up are good. We'll go into the Grand Finals at Calder Park in December on maximum points and that makes me confident we can bring it home for Lucas Oil again," he said.
