CHARLOTTE, N.C. (April 8) - With Las Vegas behind him, ProtectTheHarvest.com Pro Stock driver Rodger Brogdon is ready to see what the rest of the 2014 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series season holds for him beginning with this weekend's NHRA Four-Wide Nationals.
The same season goal will apply when his Camaro pulls up to the starting line this weekend: Go home with the win. Brogdon doesn't care how many people he is up against because he knows his success is dependent on himself alone.
"The Four-Wide Nationals is always an interesting event for any racer," Brogdon said. "It's not very often that you have to worry about three other guys lined up next to you in the staging area. You can't worry about that though. You can't let the extra lights on the tree affect your thinking. The key is to focus on your lane and your light only. Once you start worrying about everyone else that's when you start to have problems."
Even though his results may not reflect it, Brogdon and his ProtectTheHarvest.com team have made substantial improvements week in and week out. The hope is that Charlotte will be the first event where they can show off all the hard work that has gotten them this far.
"I'm not worried about how my season has gone so far," Brogdon said. "Sure, it's not the results I wanted. Obviously, I would have liked to have had a win by this point, but everyone wants that and it's just not possible. 2014 has been off to a slow start, but I'm proud of where we are at and the small gains we have made so far.
"Heading into every weekend I feel like I have a shot to go a few rounds and take home the trophy. This weekend in Charlotte is no different; I think we're ready to go. I'm going to go out there and do my job like no one can do it better than I can."
Brogdon will begin chasing his first NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series win of the 2014 season when qualifying for the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals kicks off at 1:15 p.m., Friday. Three other qualifying sessions will be held at 4:15 p.m. on Friday and 1:15 and 4:15 p.m. on Saturday. Final eliminations, which will be broadcast in tape delay on ESPN2, will begin at noon on Sunday.
