CHARLOTTE, N.C. (April 8) - After a rough start to his 2014 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series season, Lucas Oil/MAVTV Pro Stock driver Larry Morgan is more than ready to show his competition at this weekend's NHRA Four-Wide Nationals what kind of power he really has under the hood.
The Lucas Oil/MAVTV Ford Mustang is prepped and ready to run four-wide in Charlotte, and the idea of lining up against three other competitors doesn't faze Morgan in the slightest; in fact, it fuels his fire to win.
"I don't care how many lanes the track is, I just like to race," Morgan said. "I could be going against one competitor or up to 10 other cars, it doesn't matter to me. Give me a chance to race, and I'm there until you kick me out. I'm not scared of a challenge and the Four-Wide Nationals is no different."
No challenge is ever too big for Morgan, who is feeling more confident than ever about his chances this weekend. Even though he has been plagued with issues so far this season, Morgan thinks he finally has all of them resolved and is ready to race.
"After Las Vegas, we were able to locate what we think the problem was during the weekend performance-wise," Morgan said. "There was a broken shock that went unnoticed and probably kept us from performing at the level I expected to run. Since then, we have fixed the shocks and made a few other adjustments to get ready for Charlotte.
"Just to make sure we're ready, the team is heading to Rockingham (N.C.) Wednesday to get in some testing time. Obviously, you can't duplicate a track like there is in Charlotte, but I feel like Rockingham will give me a close idea of what to expect, not only with performance but also in terms of weather."
Morgan is ready to show the rest of the Pro Stock field how a real racer handles running four-wide when qualifying for the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals kicks off at 1:15 p.m., Friday. Three other qualifying sessions will be held at 4:15 p.m. on Friday and 1:15 and 4:15 p.m. on Saturday. Final eliminations, which will be broadcast in tape delay on ESPN2, will begin at noon on Sunday.
