CORONA, California (March 18, 2014) – Wild West Motorsports Park, the multi-use racing facility carved out of a hilly landfill in Sparks, Nevada, already is one of the most interesting and entertaining tracks in the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series presented by GEICO.
This year, it will be spectacular because someone said "let there be light" and Bruce Bebee said "OK, glad to oblige."
Bebee owns Night Lights by Bebee, a company that provides specialized lighting for the entertainment and recreation industries, and this year he's going to light up Wild West Motorsports Park for both visits by the world's best short course off road racing series.
The first visit will be May 30-31, for rounds 5 and 6 of the 15 that will determine the points champions in Pro 2, Pro 4, Pro Lite and Pro Buggy. The second event, on August 22-23, will be for rounds 11 and 12, and the unique nature of the track makes it an ideal place to hold the pivotal weekend of the season.
The addition of a second race is recognition of the entertainment value of the fast, 1-mile track and its 1,000-foot elevation changes. Streamlining the event format to put all the on-track activity on two days will make it a better value for the best spectators in motor sports. And putting it all under the lights will make it an incredible visual experience for the fans, the racers and the MAVTV cameras.
Bebee, who will provide illiumination for six of the eight events on this year's schedule, said for the Wild West races Night Lights will use four turbocharged diesel trucks, each of which is a fully self-contained unit with light frames that can be extended as much as 130 feet above the ground and support 15 6,000-watt lights.
The lights can rotate 330 degrees and can be used as spotlights, flood lights or to pan an area, and they can be operated individually or as a group.
"We've worked with Night Lights for a while now and they're definitely the best in the business. That was one of the big reasons we felt comfortable about scheduling most of our events at night this year," Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series director Ritchie Lewis said.
"It's going to be a real win-win for the fans. They won't have to sit through the heat of the day and they're going to see the most spectacular short course off road racing in the world."
